Over on Rivals there is talk of Utah and also Colorado. I have to admit, I did forget about them. We have played Colorado a few times before too. Revenge on Utah would be nice.

We pounded them in 97 but we got revenge the year before with the Fail Mary game in Boulder. Keith Jackson said he didn't know if his heart could take another completed miracle pass. Yeah, Keith. Try being a Michigan fan when the pass was in the air.
I went to the 2008 opener against Utah which began the RichRod years. I'd love to pay them back.

I remember that 1996 game ("Fail Mary"..hehe!). Charles Woodson, who had an interception earlier in that game (he was still in HS when the 1994 game was played), had a perfect comment afterward, about the prelude to the failed pass (by Detmer):
"In the huddle, no one said a word about the 'Hail Mary'. But you knew everyone was THINKING about it."
And at least according to the SI article, Chuck Winters, one of the primary goats of the '94 miracle, jumped the highest and actually deflected the Fail Mary.
Colorado clearly outplayed us that day, but couldn't overcome about 1,000 penalties for 10 times that many yards. Including a motion penalty to erase a completion for a TD to one of their speedy wideouts.
Of course, in 1997, we beat them every way you can...score (27-3), stats, forced mistakes, you name it.

2002 Utah, yeah. To this day I still haven't seen footage of that game. My dad and I listened to it driving home from our family cottage in Muskegon. 10-0 in the first quarter and then no offense the rest of the way. Ugly win but it was a win. I think the team was experiencing hangover from the Notre Dame game the week before. ND pulled a Charles White by scoring a phantom touchdown, but while White fumbled the ball in the end zone from the 1, Carlyle Holiday left the ball behind on the 2 carrying nothing but air into the end zone. The ball was recovered by Michigan on the 2 but the ref signaled Notre Dame touchdown anyway. Jackass.
The Fail Mary game against Colorado, a satisfying win not only for revenge but because that was a solid top 10 Colorado team. That was the last dominant Buffs team before they went into several years of mediocrity.
This is horrible video quality but skip ahead to 5:41 to see the last play. The game coming down to hail mary again, Bob Griese himself said, "Is this weird or what?"

I'll tell you what's even more weird, the kid who "had a shot at it" in the endzone was none other than Rae Carruth, that slimy bastard who played for the Carolina Panthers until he was suspected of murdering his girlfriend and unborn child.
Found his ass hiding in the trunk of a car somewhere in Tennessee, I believe (I know the trunk part is right, pretty sure on TN too).
