| It's pretty safe to say that he has been in the weight room a lot this summer...
Sure there is a bit more flab but a ton more muscle. _________________ 'eggo denoted me a First ballot Hall of Famer! - sandyeggo_blue wrote:

| That is what I would describe as "thick." I hope he can still turn is torso to catch a pass.

Where? I didn't say a lot of flab, just more than when he made his decision. He actually looked kinda small/thin for B1G TEN football during his announcement, not so much anymore. Is anyone else thinking he might be Michigan's version of Ron Dayne? http://michigan.247sports.com/Article/Michigan-Football-Recruiting-Predictions-114847 _________________ 'eggo denoted me a First ballot Hall of Famer! - sandyeggo_blue wrote:

| Ron Dayne is exactly who I am thinking of when I look at his picture. Hell, if he can put up those kinds of numbers I dont care how big he gets. | |

| Out of curiosity I just looked it up, Dayne was 5'10" and 265 when at Wisconsin. That's not right...
http://articles.philly.com/1997-08-24/sports/25566590_1_ron-dayne-wisconsin-football-field
"Ron Dayne is 5-feet-10 and weighs 265 pounds"
This site says 270!
http://www.kgbanswers.com/how-tall-was-ron-dayne-and-how-much-did-he-weigh-during-his-senior-year-at-wisconsin/20671593
And this book says 270 as well, 2nd paragraph.
http://books.google.com/books?id=gQOyk6LTMHMC&pg=PA71&lpg=PA71&dq=how+much+did+ron+dayne+weigh+at+wisconsin&source=bl&ots=0A_gPFPJpi&sig=4urWweZhTN1d-2QxixN5-caqTBs&hl=en&sa=X&ei=dqkJUor3EuyFyQGUkYDgDw&ved=0CHwQ6AEwCQ#v=onepage&q=how%20much%20did%20ron%20dayne%20weigh%20at%20wisconsin&f=false
I guess we should hush everyone saying that he is getting fat and won't be any good. Dayne won a frickin' Heisman and he was bigger.... With the OL we'll have in a couple years I'm starting to think Green might be our third Heisman winner (maybe). _________________ 'eggo denoted me a First ballot Hall of Famer! - sandyeggo_blue wrote:

| Ron Dayne built up his rushing record against crap teams. When it came time to play against legit defenses, he was a non-factor. And the only reason he won the Heisman was because Peter Warrick got arrested and was therefore removed from being the overwhelming favorite.
Physically, they may look alike. But I'm hoping Green can be better than Dayne.
P.S. 2nd, we already have three Heisman winners.

| He isn't even close to being Ron Dayne in terms of size. Here is a BMI chart that can give you good comparisons.
http://www.pro-football-reference.com/blog/?p=489
Derrick Green 6'0 240 = BMI 32.5. Ron Dayne BMI = 35.9 Jerome Bettis BMI = 35.1 Ricky Williams = 32.4
I think Derrick Green run a lot like Ricky Williams did. Great combination of size and speed. Williams was one of the best college RBs of all time, so I don't think Green will get to his level, but same running styles. _________________

| I'd be willing to bet that Ron Dayne has over 4,000 yards rushing vs Big 10 opponents and I'd be willing to bet than no running back in Michigan History has over 3,500 vs Big 10 opponents. _________________ | |

| And I've seen you post about him on MGoBlog, picking and choosing games that you say he had no affect in. Your point being that he gets his stats from cupcake teams.
You can do that for our best running backs too.
Mike hart: 2000 5 carries for 17 yards (3.4ypc) in a loss to Notre Dame. 26 carries for 99 yards (3.8ypc) vs Iowa. 20 carries for 79 yards (4.0ypc) vs Indiana. 18 carries for 61 yards (3.4ypc) in a loss to Ohio St. 21 carries for 83 yards (4.0ypc) in a loss to Texas. Meanwhile, vs San Diego State, Minnesota, Purdue, Illinois, Michigan St., and Northwestern he wan for a combined 1,096 yards.
Michigan played 12 games that year. In 6 of them he ran for 1,096 yards.... In the other 6 he ran for 359 yards.
You can go through and do this for just about every running back and the fact that you are doing it for Ron Dayne only is simply because you have a bias. _________________

Dayne was a great college back. Really, you don't rush for over 6,000 yards in a career without being great. Anyone who think otherwise is wrong.

| He was a beast....it's just that our defense was more of a beast those years we played him (and shut him down).
The other thing that helped back then was they didn't have a very good passing O. So, if you had the right kind of players stacked in the box, you had a good shot at relegating Dayne. _________________ "I don't get sick. I don't observe major holidays. I don't think he ever broke the century mark against UM, but that doesn't mean he wasn't a great back. UM from 1996-1999 had some pretty good defneses.

| In 1996 Ron Dayne ran for 1,306 yards in 8 games vs Big 10 teams including 28 carries for 139 yards (5.0ypc) vs t1st place Northwestern. 24 carries for 129 yards (5.4) 2 TDs vs t3rd place Penn St.
In the Copper Bowl vs Utah 30 carries for 246 yards (8.2avg) 3 TDs
In 1997 Ron Dayne ran for 976 yards in 7 games (sat out vs MI) vs Big Ten teams including: 30 carries for 126 yards (4.3ypc) vs t2nd place Penn St. 26 carries for 141 yards (5.4ypc) vs t2nd place Purdue.
In 1998 Ron Dayne ran for 1,070 yard in 8 games vs Big Ten teams.
In the Rose Bowl vs UCLA: 27 carries for 246 yards (9.1ypc) 4 TDs.
In 1999 Ron Dayne ran for 1,310 yards in 8 games vs Big Ten teams including: 32 carries for 161 yards (5.0ypc) 4 TDs vs Ohio St. 34 carries for 214 yards (6.3ypc) 2 TDs vs t3rd place Michigan St.
In the Rose Bowl vs Stanford: 34 carries for 200 yards (5.9ypc) 1 TD.
So you can say "he got all of his stats from cupcakes" until you are red in the face, but you are just making yourself look bitter.
And I hate Wisconsin. I live on the WI/MI border (in fact, almost everyone I know is a Packer/Brewer fan). But there is no doubt that Dayne was fantastic. _________________

Not sure when this height/weight stats are from but Wheatley listed at 6'0" 235. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/W/WheaTy00.htm Bunch listed at 6'2" 250. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/B/BuncJa00.htm

| Ron Dayne ran for 4,602 yards vs Big Ten teams alone.
Anthony Thomas ran for 4,230 yards in his career. Tyrone Wheatley ran for 4,178 yards in his career. Tim Biakabatuka ran for 2,810 yards in his career.
Mike Hart is the only player in Michigan history to rush for over 4,602 yards in his career. Against Big Ten teams? Hart ran for 3,245 yards.
Ron Dayne has 1,357 more Big Ten rushing yards than Michigan's all time leading rusher. _________________

P.S. 2nd, we already have three Heisman winners. It's funny that you discredit Dayne's accomplishment's by saying he built up his stats against crap team and then point to Peter Warrick. Peter Warrick had phenomenal stats in his 5 games before being arrested: 36 catches for 508 yards 4 TDs. 3 rushing TDs. 1 passing TD. However, those 5 games were against: Louisiana Tech, Georiga Tech, N.C. State, Duke, and North Carolina. Real juggernauts. His final 5 games, Warrick averaged less than 90 yards per game. It's okay that you have a bias against Dayne, but don't try to pretend he was some slouch. _________________

Yes. Please disregard my comment. It centered around my long time pet peeve against Wisconsin and their scheduling. But 6,000 yards is 6,000 yards. So I stand corrected times ten.
