| You've been Chicken Little on this- but last night for once I agree- the effort was lacking- that's really the first time all year I've seen a lack of effort, as distinguished from poor or ineffectual play. | |

| shoes it was so bad there for awhile. I thought that maybe John would just throw his hands up and put all the non scholarship players out there.
I coach youth hockey for 18 years and after a game like that I wouldn't even go in the locker room. _________________ "HAIL HAIL MICHIGAN" Wanted John Harbaugh but I'll settle for JIM WITH AN ENTHUSIASM UNKNOWN TO MANKIND GOOO BLUE The Curse of Rich Rod

| "When you're hot, you're hot. When you're not...." 'shoes is old enough to remember that little ditty. Summer, '71, I believe. As I said earlier, live by the three, die by the three. Obviously, we miss Stauskas. When he was a frosh, I never thought he would be a two and done, figured he'd be around for the duration because, well,...he's Canadian. | |

| Stauskas unlike Irvin worked hard on other parts of his game. He learned he couldn't just sit out side and Bomb away, he learned to put the ball on the floor and drive to the bucket. Irvin doesn't even attempt to go to the hole . Walton tries more than Irvin and he 5 inches shorter. _________________ "HAIL HAIL MICHIGAN" Wanted John Harbaugh but I'll settle for JIM WITH AN ENTHUSIASM UNKNOWN TO MANKIND GOOO BLUE The Curse of Rich Rod

| Stauskas did show flashes of being able to go to the hoop as a true freshman though he did not do it that often, there was enough to know he could, he could also create his own shot. Irvin showed no signs of either last year, the thoughts that he would morph into Nik as a soph appear to have been wishful thinking.
IMO we are missing two things that I thought we would have this season- the slasher who can get to and finish at the hoop- based on reports, I though Chatman might be that guy, but so far he is not. The second is a full bore Walton. Last year he was quicker, faster, and was able to break the D down for a lay-up or easy feed. The turf toe is likely the culprit there.

'shoes This is probably only the second year under Beilein that we haven't had a freshman come in and make major contributions right off the bat, the other being Morris' freshman season. Doyle has contributed but I can't call his contributions major yet. Chatman's performance has been really alarming. It's a bit too early to declare, but he's showing some strong signs of being a bust. At this point I'm just hoping for Horford level contributions from him.

| Horford contribution at this time would be a major impact . If you could get 8 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assist that would be awesome.
By the way wouldn't you think if you went 8 minutes w/o scoring you say to the team okay this time we are going to go inside get a great look at a shot even if it take all 35 sec. _________________ "HAIL HAIL MICHIGAN" Wanted John Harbaugh but I'll settle for JIM WITH AN ENTHUSIASM UNKNOWN TO MANKIND GOOO BLUE The Curse of Rich Rod

I think we have actually had the opposite problem at times using too much of the shot clock. I have seen Spike. Caris, and Walton all have open looks multiple times this year, hesitate, allowing the defense to close out, and then we wind up getting a forced shot with the clock running out. I suspect this is because the confidence is shaken as they have struggled with the shot. When Beilein's offense is running well we get a lot of lay-ups- look at Jordan Morgan's FG percentage, but we do have to have the threat of the 3 to get them. I attended the Minnesota game and their clear strategy was to close out hard on the 3 point shots and we finally did take advantage and get Doyle open a few times underneath. Unfortunately Donnal, Bielfeldt and Chatman don't seem to be able to do that. 'shoes

I'm talking about Chatman being as good as Horford is now in four years. Horford as a freshman was clearly not ready for college basketball, like Chatman now, expect he wasn't a top-30 recruit.
