I won't argue against it. Redshirts are pointless in this day & age of college football UNLESS someone will benefit from them. I'm still 70% Ruddock, 25% Morris, and 5% Gentry/Speight/Malzone (all of those are guesses BTW). I still like Speight as a dark-horse candidate, but that doesn't mean he'll win the job.

I really don't know much about Gentry but if he is as good as Lehman is saying (although how would he know, the talent level in NM High Schools is nothing great) why not? However he should be the 3rd-string QB at most. I'm not sure how playing a couple series against UNLV's scrubs while handing the ball off will help? Alas, this is why Coach Harbaugh makes the big bucks.

My view is that if you think he has a good chance of being the second best this year (or best, as unlikely as that may be), then you let him play, otherwise you redshirt him. If he doesn't redshirt, I'd say that would be a clear signal that Morris and Speight have no future at Michigan.

PS- did he really RUSH for 1000 yards last season?

Is there a cap on the number of Freshmen/people that you can RS in a season? If so that theoretically could play into any decision made.

No, you can RS them all if you want.
