Don't know much about this guy other than it is a position of need but he committed yesterday.  'eggo?

http://michigan.247sports.com/Bolt/BREAKING-Michigan-picks-up-surprise-commitment-105477650?utm_source=247Sports%20Newsletter&utm_medium=Newsletter&utm_campaign=170725_213034_Michigan%20Wolverines&utm_content=Image&liveconnect=AE-2C-B5-60-E6-B8-DB-92-BA-57-69-39-11-34-90-CE170725_213034MichiganWolverines

OK, from the very limited research that I've done on this guy he looks like a project.  He has the frame potential as he is listed at 6'6" but only 225 lbs.  A year or so on a strength & conditioning program should get him up to 245 which for that height is still kinda light but doable.  His offer sheet is weak, that doesn't mean everything but when your 2nd-best offer is from Navy you've got some 'splain to do Lucy.  The coaches must see promise in him, that or there is another prospect from that area.  'eggo?  I have no complaints about this kid, in Coach Harbaugh I trust.

It looks like he also played some QB in High School and from his tapes (I know that you can't really tell much from highlight tapes) he looks like an athlete (well for his size).

You mean he declared yesterday that, barring a change of mind, he's planning on going to Michigan, right?

It's a campaign. Banishment to non-binding commitments (declared) upcoming (coming) and as of late (lately). The battle will be long.

So out of his current offer list (Connecticut, East Carolina, Indiana, Massachusetts, Navy, Miami (Oh), Rutgers, Temple, and Toledo) who is going to steal him?

Well, another PWO QB commit.

a lot of dominoes fell in a particular way for this to happen. I don't care to explain them all but from his tape this kid's game reminds me a lot of Tate Forcier.

I'm sure you will all have mixed feelings.

He's a walk on.  If he turns into Griese,  great, if not, that's ok too.  The team needs walk ons for practice.

agree with your thoughts fish.

again... as I said, a lot went down over the last year regarding MICHIGAN's pursuit of QBs for this class. I'm fairly confident in saying that they wanted, or at least set aside, scholarships for two QBs and Milton was a big win IMO. Still not sure why Milton isn't getting more hype but I digress. Back on topic, I'm fairly positive that Shough was M's first and last real try at landing a second schollie QB in the class. When that didn't happen I was positive they would re-purpose that spot elsewhere (and maybe they still have) but a PWO commit is perfect for the class.

The Tate comparison is solely based on his elusiveness and his creativity on the fly

Another QB, 3-star Kevin Doyle from Washington DC. No one even knew that he had an offer from Michigan. 247's CB's were 88% to Ole'Miss and 12% to Pitt. It's looking like we stole a scout team QB...

A pretty good list of people currently thinking they'll probably be going to Michigan gets better and better. What's the name of the one that's visiting 'bama this weekend?

Didn't see much on 'bamas visit list. Both Penei Sewell and Bobby Brown are visiting 'bama this weekend and both are cool on Michigan. There is one other visitor to 'bama this weekend but he is already committed to Nebraska.

I guess that we need 'eggo for this one.

Lose a 4* and gain a 3*. I trust Jim on this 3* but this exchange rate isn't going to help us catch the Sucknuts if we want to be in the same class as them. They have the #1 recruiting class of 2018 with 4 of five stars and we have #14 class with zero five *'s, right now. Dang, tough to catch up that way.

you should have said Lose a fringe 5* and gain a 2* that isn't even on the radar. the rest of your assessment is spot on.

Star ratings are just that.  However we lost a good OL commit only to gain a mediocre RB commit.  THAT is the real story. However Levon Bell was only a 2-star but whatever...

I'd rather be disappointed by our football team and proud of the university than proud of our football team and ashamed of the university.

https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/michigan-extends-offer-to-2018-in-state-te/

Vansumeren is from a town that I lived in for several years after college.  I personally do not know him or of him, I left Essexville 5 years ago so he would have been 12 at the time.  Only Jerry Sandusky would have been into him at that age.  What, too soon?  Anyway Garber is a smaller school and therefore plays in a lesser division.  That being said I'm not sure how talented this kid is.  I've spoken with a friend who still lives in Bay City (right next door) and has said that Vansumeren is the real deal.  I have no idea what to think.

He's an Iowa commit as of now but things could change. I know that there are a couple guys from Mid-Michigan on this board, any input?

We played Garber when I was in HS.  I grew up in Millington.  We were part of the Tri-Valley conference.  They never really had a very good football team, but they were always good at Basketball.

In 2012 Essexville had a very good Little League Baseball team. They made is a long way into the tournament. I think that they were 2 wins shy of actually going to Williamsport. Of course the way Little League tournaments work is that each time you win you get to add 2 people from teams that didn't make the cut so they had people (probably pitchers) from Bay City, Saginaw, and surrounding cities on that team as well as the Essexville kids. My point here is that Vansumeren is the right age to have been on that team IF he played baseball then which I bet he did.

In a move that surprised absolutely no one, VanSumeren flipped. Cue 'woody's sarcastic response.
