Harbaugh has offered a scholarship to Hawaii 8th Grade Quarterback Sol-Jay Maiava.

Let all the comments commence but I'll say if Harbaugh offered him I'm 100% behind it!

Still, lmfao!

Don't know much about him but it looks maybe OK despite it being waaaayyy early. And ttechnically he is in 9th grade. School is out and the next class he attends will be in 9th grade.

Not wild about it. It seems like a bit of a stunt. I'm not even in favor of Junior commitments though I guess they are necessary.

This is really pretty meaningless- so much can happen in the next 4 years.

Working with high school athletes all my life, I keep telling the student-athletes, take time to be a kid, don't be in a hurry to grow up.

Point of this is, here's an 13/14 yr. old kid making adult decisions already. If this kid has a great support group around him including his parents, keeps him level headed, fantastic! Does this kid completely understand the recruiting business? All you dads who have or already had teenage boys can attest a lot of changes can happen between 13/14 & 17/18 yrs. old.

Bo 2.0, thanks for the links!

Joe, agree with you, going to trust Harbaugh. Wshoes, agree with everything you said as well.

i mentioned above I hope the kid stays level headed, parents keep him grounded. One of the HS kids at the school I work at, be a soph. in fall. Already receiving letters from college baseball coaches. Real good QB as well, attended M QB camp. Great kid, super athlete, he is level headed but worried about the parents. They have their own twitter account, constantly tweeting about their sons accomplishments, vines put to music. SMH as they say on twitter!

But he isn't making adult decisions already. This offer means absolutely nothing. It's a foot in the door in HI. Neither side will ever have to honor this, and that's ok. Nothing wrong with this at all.

Fish, you're right! As long as that was communicated to the kid & he understands that which I'm sure it was.

I see HS kids preparing for ACT & SAT testing, start thinking about college end of their soph. yr. The student-athletes who have pressure to succeed not only on the field but also in the classroom as well. Maybe they're not making adult decisions, just seems they're growing up to fast.

Just my 2 cents

I get it, there is a lot of pressure on kids at that age. One thing I really like about Harbaugh, and this kind of ties in with this subject, is that he likes players that play multiple sports. So many kids specialize in one sport these days, and don't get the chance to enjoy other sports. We used to play whatever was in season. Heck, my freshmen year I did shot put in track and played baseball, unfortunately I wasn't that great at either.

When Harbaugh said he likes kids play multiple sports, I think I jumped up and down & probably cheered! High majority of the better athletes at the HS I work at play 2 sports, a few play 3.

One kid, only played lacrosse thru junior yr. Univ. of Detroit recruiting him. They highly suggested he play football his senior yr. He did, had a good yr. (WR & DB/CB) Detroit then officially offered him & he signed with them.

Worst is soccer, both boys and girls. Think they'd play 24/7/365 if they could. Volleyball is becoming/has become a specialized sport. Agree Fish, kids don't get to enjoy more than one sport. The one problem, many studies have shown athletes that play only 1 sport suffer from overuse injuries.

This one kid, class of 17', plays FB, basketball, baseball & a GPA of 3.9. He's very good at all 3 sports plus he finds the time to study. Northwestern baseball is highly interested in him. Any kid that says don't have time to study and play multiple sports is making an excuse.
