JH says he could be back. Is he the guy to start, if healthy enough? Hmmm...

I vote no- not that I have a vote. He had been bad before he was hurt, I'd like to give Peters more of a chance.

I tend to agree. Peters has earned his time. He plays as long as he's able.
I need to add, I would be really, really scared for Speight in a football game, regardless of his prognosis. If he's me, he's done with football. He lucked out this time.

I think it is time to look to the future. Stick with Peters. Offense has been running smooth. He hasn't thrown much, but when he does it looks way more natural and hits receivers in stride.

Peters.

BTW, Wilton is cleared to throw but not for contact.

At least that's what I heard.

With all that said Brandon hasn't had much in the way of numbers. Of course when you run for 400+ you don't need them.

He's still young. If you vote Peters you must know he's going to make mistakes.

With that said, I'll repeat myself.

PETERS.

Has to be a no for Speight ... he was what he was an average QB , wasn’t help with the porous OL he played behind but his awareness in the pocket and downfield was not good .... add on the uncertainty from a near career ending injury and it is time to move on ... Peters certainly has the better mechanics and arm strength just needs reps during the game ... wish Peters would have gotten more chances to air it out in the second half

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. We should all just wait and see.

IMO Peters has been good with ball control, turnovers, TD/TO ratio and overall game managment. His numbers over two starts are far better than Wilt and JOK's this year but that's to be expected given the play calls over Peters' two starts. But IMO you should expect better numbers when you consider the following:

Over the first 7 games Wilt and JOK combined for 4TDs and 6 INTs. Over the last two games Peters has 2TDs vs 0 INTs.

But over the first 7 games Wilt and JOK combined for 197 pass attempts vs 27 pass attempts for Peters over the last two games. With Wilt and JOK Michigan averaged 28.14 pass attempts per game. With Peters they only average 13.5 attempts.

Also over the first 7 games Michigan called 252 run plays (36 rush attempts per game). Those numbers DO NOT include rush attempts in the stat sheet from the QBs. Those are actual run design plays. Over the last two games Michigan has called 82 run plays (41 rush attempts per game). Again, those numbers DO NOT include rush attempts in the stat sheet from Peters. Those are actual run design plays.

You don't have to be a football guru to realize that the coaches have watered down the play book a bit and have put the ball in Peters' hands a considerable amount less than they did for Wilt and JOK. And yes, I understand that Rutgers and Minn were teams Michigan was going to try to run on anyway given their injuries and youth in their Defenses, but still.....

So far Peters has passed the eye test. From the small sample size I've seen I've liked his pocket presence and decision making. It's clear that his upside is far greater than Wilt or JOK's but let's not jump ahead of ourselves.

If he's getting shelled by Wisconsin and making terrible decisions against their veteran D (by far the best D he will have seen to that point) then I know you will all be calling for Wilt if he's healthy.

I will not. This isn't about this season. This season is lost. This is about the future. Peters needs to be in against better defenses, to improve and be ready to take the helm next year. Go Blue.

as fish says this season is what it is ... Speight isn’t the future, he was an average QB at best before his injury last year and now with the serious injury this year I don’t see any upside at all for him being the starter... Peters needs reps and even if it is a rough outing against Wisky he needs to stay in and face top teams ... only way to see how he responds to adversity

I honestly think it is dangerous for Speight to play football again.

The chances are slim, I will give you that, but the season is NOT lost. For Michigan to win the B1G east the following has to happen....

1. Michigan has to win out and beat Mar, Wisc, and O$U which I believe can happen.

2. O$U must beat MSU this weekend which I believe WILL  happen.

3. MSU also must lose to Mar or Rut which I believe probably won't happen.

4. PSU must lose to Rut, Neb, or Mar which I believe might actually happen.

But what if MSU and PSU lose this weekend? Then will you still let Peters get shell shocked by Wisc with a healthy Wilt on the bench especially if the game is in within reach?

I know I'm playing the hypothetical game here and I get (and somewhat share) your point about letting Peters get as comfortable as possible heading into next year, especially since our division rivals have to reboot at some key positions next year, but it all goes back to my point. Let's wait to see what happens. Let's not put on the blinders on just yet and think out loud that we need to keep Peters out there the rest of the way no matter what happens. JMO.

By the way, if all goes like we think it will, we should see Peters start @ND next year to open the season. ND is already a really good team this year but they are going to be absolutely LOADED next year. But since they lose 4 of their O-line starters I think our D has a way better chance of keeping that game from getting out of hand and giving Peters a chance to win. If the O$U game gets out of hand this year I don't think Peters would have that same chance so I'm not sure we're really going to see what Peters can do until next year anyway. But to your point, might as well get him all of the game experience we can right now, but to my point, not at the expense of a possible B1G east division win.

not sure I've ever heard a fan say to keep a struggling player in a game if there is a legitimate chance at a conference title on the line (and a 2+ year healthy starter on the bench) all for the sake of getting that player ready for next year.

all hypothetical scenarios of course but you've made your position known and I gotta respect that even if I disagree.

I guess I should take my own advice and let this weekend play out before I get ahead of myself. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

I realize that I would rather have UM win a B1G championship, but it ain't going to happen this year.

But we aren't mathematically eliminated yet. We could be by o$u but we're not yet. Also, Wilton and JOK will be gone next year, Peters won't. If we're already eliminated from B1G contention and our OL is a sieve it IS NOT good strategy to have Peters in there risking injury and/or experiencing shell-shock. I say this as I firmly believe that McCaffrey will be the starter next year. However since our first game is @rudy next year it is "possible" that Peters starts that game only because he has a minor amount of experience over McCaffrey. Dylan is still my guy though, long spring/summer coming for McCaffrey to shine though with the 1's.

Wilton may or may not be gone, he has another year of eligibility.
