I do not have a problem with this. If the player hasn't improved to the point of helping the team on the field, and has a UM degree, why should the school pay for 1 year of grad school? It is time for the team and the player to move on. It is a harsh reality, but you can't keep guys just to be nice. They have a degree, put it to use. The real world awaits.

I agree with your thoughts. Even this past class was offered FOUR-YEAR schollies, not "We'll pay for your schooling until your eligibility runs out" schollies.
