Amen, brother. BTW, just noticed your posted age...if true, it's genuine solace I'm not the old man of
this forum, after all...!!!

(Damned close, though...)

When Wile lined up, I was sure it was going to be the old pooch punt that Lloyd used to use. That was a high pressure kick for his first career attempt. I think we are fine at PK and Punter for a few years.

Great kick.

saw Wile kick a 45+ yarder in high school against Steele Canyon (I think). I waived my M flag afterward and he pointed to my wife and I soon after he got to the bench. When he finally committed I knew it was because of me. You can thank me for that 48 yarder ha ha.

Then again by that logic, I went and saw Tate play a few games too soooo......

Can't wait to see how my boy Magnuson does.

San Diego is a hot bed (see USC, Oregon, Oklahoma, UCLA, etc) and with Hokes ties to the area hopefully M will continue to pull kids like Wile that can make a difference in a close game like that.

Officially I'm not now nor have I ever been working on any recruit... that would be a violation of NCAA rules. I've never said a thing to a recruit. No contact. Never yelled their name or sent out a congrats during a game or not. I just always go and show the world that I am a Michigan fan and if a Michigan recruit happens to be at the game then so be it.

That said, I had been in the Rancho Cucamonga area recently and I wanted to go see a game in Upland but didn't around to it. Still hoping we get a kid from that High School though.

Of course I was gonna get up to Murrieta also to see a game but decided I have better things to do since a certain someone on their team has committed to USC.

Hoke has always said that Gibbons is our place-kicker, for the most part. Wile will take care of the 45+ kicks but IIRC Gibbons has made a few long ones that Wile never saw the field for during the last year and a half?

I can't even remember the last time we made a 48 yard kick. Maybe Hayden Epstein around 2001ish.

Well, WH, you were all of two years old when the 1982 Michigan-UCLA game was played at the 'House, but I was at it. And not only did Ali Haji-Shiekh hit a 48-yarder, on the very last play of the half, but I clearly recall:
UCLA thought the clock had expired...and the officials recalled them from their locker room!!! (Or at least from deep down the tunnel...) to get back on the field, and Ali hit the kick anyway. Talk about a long time-out to "ice a kicker", eh?

Damn, but we lost that one (as well as a rematch in the Rose Bowl 3 months later)...

What I dont understand it that of all the kickers in the US, why can't all kick 45+ yard field goals? Of my 3 years on varsity we had 2 kickers during that time who kicked 50+ in a game and I am from a small B school(neither were soccer players).

Well, obviously we had a few long field goals more recent than that. Looking up the last 15 years, we had more 48+ yard field goals than I remember....

1. Hayden Epstein 57 yard FG against MSU (2001)
2. Hayden Epstein 56 yard FG against MSU (1999)
3. Hayden Epstein 52 yard FG against Northwestern (2000)
4. Hayden Epstein 51 yard FG against Iowa (2001)
4. Jason Olesnavage 51 yard FG against Purdue (2009)
4. Jay Feely 51 yard FG against MSU (1998)
4. Jay Feely 51 yard FG against Baylor (1997)
8. K.C. Lopata 50 yard FG against Utah (2008)
9. Jay Feely 49 yard FG against Penn State (1998)
9. Jay Feely 49 yard FG against Wisconsin (1998)
11. K.C. Lopata 48 yard FG against Minnesota (2008)
11. Matt Wile 48 yard FG against MSU (2012)
11. Garrett Rivas 48 yard FG against Vanderbilt (2006)

I'm surprised Epstein leads the list for the top 4 longest field goals because I remember him missing plenty of them.
