If 10 of us donate $10 to Admin, we'd be able to use mgoforum.net. It's the next step in our journey to becoming the #1 Michigan sports message board.  

Why would a .net be a good/better thing? What would it do that isn't being done?

Yeah hail, is there an advantage? If so I'd bet $100 could be raised.

I don't know. I just think domain names are huge for traffic. For example, WalterFootball.com has become one of the most visited NFL draft sites because of the catchy domain name. The actual information he gives there, though, is trash. It is basically one guys opinion and he obviously doesn't follow every team in the NFL. Reading that site as a Jaguars fan is a frustrating because he is always so off base with the direction the Jaguars organization is going.

The most visited NBA draft site is nbadraft.net. Just like WalterFootball, they benefit from having a catchy domain name. The NBA draft info on DraftExpress.com is x1000000 better than anything you will get from nbadraft.net.

Google "NBA mock draft", though.

Getting more traffic isn't always always about changing the product (I love this board), but rather changing logistics.

Ok, fine fine fine. We don't have to push for a switch. I just have a dream that one day MGoForum will be legendary and our kids kids will be able to look back and say "Grand-pa-pa was one of the originals."

And plus, you guys realllllllly slack on the basketball side of things (minus dwoody and wshoes). I need some hoops talk! Basketball is only a couple weeks away.

I really wish charblue would have found his way over here. He was by far the most active hoops poster on MLive (with you, wshoes, and jjbilene). I'll omit PFSissy.

I just get depressed at work when I'm bored and I refresh my MGoForum page and it shows "last post: hailtoyourvictor" in both football and basketball.

I haven't put much thought into it up to this point. Well, I guess that's sort of not true. I've certainly thought about buying a domain, but I've never truly looked into the costs. Also, I don't ever see myself taking this thing to the point of constant advertisement barrages on you, the user (or me, the user, for that matter) in order to make a little coin from it.

Things are picking up, no doubt. My favorite stat, other than the total # of posts (25,000+), is that some 67 member or so were all logged on at the same time about a month back, I believe.

Here's the other issue with purchasing a domain:

I don't have the HTML skills to develop an entire site on my own, to be honest.

The only reason this site is what it is is because the forumotion site I use to host it provides me with templates and all other kinds of jazzy things to actually 'create' it.

If we had someone on here who was of the ability to build out the site, I'd certainly consider purchasing a domain.

Anybody got that? I don't want to lose our posts and post counts, though.

any chance we could get a .com over a .net? i think a .com would be better off.

I don't think there's anything 'bad' about it.

I think Hail's main reasoning for a switch in URL/domain is that it could potentially drive more traffic.

The .forumotion.com URL ending isn't very conducive to 'new' traffic unless people are sharing the link.

I think he makes a good point, it's just a matter of whether or not we, or I, I guess, would be willing to accept the task of recreating the site somewhere else.

I don't think we need "new" traffic. I like how it is small yet diverse. Most new traffic comes from word of mouth, so it keeps the az's of the world out.

Very true.  However, the BB forum was busy during the BB season.

My biggest gripe is during BB game and Football nobody uses the chat area, I diny knoe if it cause nobody else is here of that nobody cares

I usually try to get on the chat during the basketball games. I'll look for you this year.

Same here. And when I do answer a text, I always miss something. Too stupid to do it during commercials.

Same here. I find myself on Twitter during the commercial breaks to get some stats, etc., but my superstitious ways have led me to abandon this behavior beginning this week.

I'm going back to jersey on, empty house, on the couch, alone, no booze.

(When I'm at the games, I'm typically pretty boozed up. When I'm home, I don't drink. Weird, huh?)

I remember a while back someone posted that they had a superstition that they always had to have a football in their hand. I'm too lazy to look back and find the post but I think it's a pretty good one to have.

the last few years I've been at the bar for every game that I haven't gone to. The only superstition I have is that I only drink one drink (usually whiskey and water) for the first half. The second half all bets are off. I've only had to deviate from the plan a handful of times when my wife has joined me, then I go into babysitter mode because she's a lightweight.
