Would you rather?

I know that I'm one of the few (if any) that would prefer a basketball NC over a football NC. I'm curious as to what you guys would prefer, though, between Michigan winning a national title in basketball or Michigan winning a Big Ten championship and a Rose Bowl in football.

Thoughts?

This year I take football because that probably means beating ohio twice.

A National Title in Basketball trumps a B1G Title in Football.

Now, woody makes a good point.

I guess if we could beat Ohio twice and WIN the Rose Bowl I could choke down another Runner Up in Basketball! lol

Only for this year, Joe. Next year my feeling is probably the NCAA tourney win.

The one thing about winning the Big Ten title is that no other team in the Big Ten can say they were better than you. You can talk the talk because you walked the walk.

I don't feel like Michigan was the best basketball team in the Big Ten last year. The NCAAT is about getting hot at the right time and about matchups. I think Indiana was a better team than Michigan, but faced a Syracuse zone that they didn't matchup well against. Mitch McGary is much better at passing from the high post than Zeller is and that is what allowed Michigan to beat that zone.

Indiana fans can still say they won the Big Ten title and swept Michigan. They have a pretty good argument for being the better team.

What is the alternative for Football short of winning the Rose Bowl? What is the alternative for Basketball short of winning the NCAA?

If the alternatives are roughly comparable, then I'd go with the NC, we only have one of those suckers and they are precious. Though it is nice to dream about winning the Rose Bowl THIS year (seems a long, long shot).

A basketball NC means way more for the bball program (in terms of exposure, recruiting, etc) than a Rose Bowl win does for the football program.

The NC game is being played in the Rose Bowl, therefore it was a trick question. And after Michigan beats ohio twice (and magically goes back in time to beat Penn State) a 13-0 Michigan team will be in the NC game. Since the NC game is in the Rose Bowl this year (and I'm not a fan of the other game) I choose Football.
