OT: Birmingham Seaholm upsets Southfield 17-16, McDowell needs work

Hope you don't mind, going to brag about the HS team I work for, Birmingham Seaholm. We upset Southfield, with all their future college stars 17-16. Dominated the game thru 3 qtrs., but losing 16-3. (The missed X-PT on their 2nd TD). Our usually reliable senior kicker, (where have we heard that before) missed a 41 yd & 34 yd kick. 1st play of game, our DB reads play perfectly has a easy pick-6, of course he drops it. S'field is fumbling punts, jumping off-side on def, 4 or 5 times, but we can't score. S'field has no 1st downs thru qtr. and half, breaks a 96 yd run for 7-0 lead, & kicks FG last play of 1st half, trialing 10-0. They throw incomplete pass with 4 secs left from our 29, but we rough the passer, giving them a 31 yd attempt.

Anyway to the 4th qtr, 6 mins left, still trailing 16-3, drive down field, 25 yd TD pass, 3:46 left, on-side kick DO NOT recover. Only 1 time-out, our def. holds them, they punt. We start from own 18, with 1:42 left, go 82 yds in 1 min., receiver makes awesome catch. We intercept pass with 11 secs left.

McDowell & rest of their of def. was gassed in 4th qtr. He played VERY well at times, bottled up our veer attack. He had some nice hits, nice tackle for loss on a 4th & 1. But in 4th qtr he's on bench for a few plays, our kids where saying he looked tired. Other times our much smaller O-line blocked him very well. He looked like a very big, but a slow D-linemen. Now remember I'm the medical guy who tapes ankles, 1st time I've seen him play, take my opinion for what's it worth.

Sandyeggo you where asking about their O-linemen Okafur. Sorry I didn't always watch him, but I what I saw & remember he was good, but not a dominating linemen. He's big but seemed slow. Except for there 96 yd run, Southfield was very UNsuccessful running the ball. Again remember just the opinion of the medical guy, not an expert. He's big, I'm sure that's why he's getting looks from SEC schools.

I don't know if they took us lightly, very possible. Maybe they where looking ahead to a possible game vs Brother Rice. All I know the beauty of HS of football, the little guy upset the very big guys.
