wouldn't it be great if 10 or so UM fans infiltrated and posed as bag men for the top 4 or 5 SEC teams a la Donnie Brasco and blew the lid off of it 5 years later with damning death sentence type proof. If I ever win the lottery I promise that I will bank roll it. Looking for volunteers now though.  Very Happy

all kidding aside I'd be lying to myself if I didn't think that this was happening at some level at UM. I do believe that it's not nearly as egregious as in the SEC but it's happening.

It still bothers me to see college athletics like this. Unionization. Buying players.

I fear that one day football will have a minor league system where players get paid to play. College football will be dead OR filled with intramural/club quality players because the good ones will be getting paid you play.

This has been going on forever. It will continue. Not a big deal if you ask me. Oh, and if anyone thinks this is only happening in the SEC, needs to pull thier head out of the sand. I'm sure UM has "shadow recruiters".

Confirms what most of us already knew. I'm sure it goes on all over the country, but I think it is clearly over the top in the SEC, which is why they are dominating college football. I think the NCAA will be dragged out of amateurism by the courts kicking and screaming. It will actually be good for Michigan when this happens (in a decade or two) because schools that make some effort (no, I don't think Michigan is spotless) to follow the rules are at a pretty big disadvantage right now. Even if players start getting paid, there will be shady deals with players who want even more, but the competitive imbalance it creates should be dulled a bit.

1000%.

The shitty thing about that though is we're clearly not doling out enough money to land some of these top kids out there.

And I hate reading the sentence I just posted. But the simple fact is that if everyone else out there is cheating, we need to be competing with them.

If Alabama is offering $100,000, Michigan needs to be offering the same.

One of the wealthiest alumni bases in the country, funds shouldn't be an issue.

I would never want to condone or agree to that behavior, regardless.
