Spectators attending Eastern Michigan's home football game Saturday will have the opportunity to enjoy a cold beer or two at Rynearson Stadium.

As part of a one-game pilot, EMU announced Tuesday it will sell beer in a cordoned off area in front of the Convocation Center overlooking the football field. The Ball State game will act as a test for potential alcohol sales at future games.

"Athletic programs across the country are looking for alternate revenue streams for their institutions, while enhancing the game-day experience for fans," Director of Athletics Heather Lyke said in a university press release. "The sale of alcohol has been an increasing part of that dynamic."

Fans entering the patio area must be 21 and will need to provide valid photo identification. Beer must be purchased and finished within the established area.

Sales will start 90 minutes before the 3 p.m. kickoff and will conclude before the start of the fourth quarter. A limit of two beers per person, per transaction will be enforced, and non-alcoholic beverages will also be available on the patio.

Arbor Brewing Company will be Saturday's beer vendor of choice, with the cost of a 16-ounce craft beer listed at $7.

Eastern Michigan joins other Mid-American Conference programs that have sold beer at a football game, including Akron, Bowling Green, Kent State and Toledo. More than 32 schools nationwide have implemented similar policies.

The EMU Department of Public Safety has plans to increase its game-day presence, and additional contracted security personnel will be assigned to the patio and Convocation Center area.

The Eagles are 1-1 this season, coming off a 48-29 road win over Wyoming.
