As the All-Star break approaches, I still say they crap out this season.

If the Tigers can't win, I hope the Cubs do (or the Pirates).

Cubbies are #2 for me, and I got you by 10+ years, Joe, which explains my confidence in the statement. I thought they would be in the Series in '69, '84, '03, and many other seasons when they faded in August or eraly-Sept.

Nah, they are really good. Not saying they win the World Series, but they will play into October.

Which will serve to prove my point in the fall. We will revisit then, and perhaps occasionally before as the ship takes on more water.

smh, you have no point. The Cubbies just landed Chapman. You have no hope.

Trust me, before the trade the weakest spot of the Cubs (and it wasn't even that weak) was their lack of a dominant left-handed pitcher in the bullpen. Chapman is a stud leftie. The Cubs are set, not even thirty Bartman's can foil them this time.

Please note, I am not guaranteeing a World Series championship, although it is very likely. The playoffs are a whole different animal. Strange things happen in the playoffs, I think it's likely though....

They've been to the playoffs several times in my life. Big deal. The Cub mystique is the inability to win it all. I am not speaking on this topic again until September.

dwoody, did you happen to see the Cubs game Sunday night? You have to believe after that.
6-0 Seattle after 3. Travis Wood comes in to pitch the top of the 6th for, guess who, Joe Nathan who had runners on 2nd & 3rd with no outs. Wood hits the first batter he faces so now the bases are loaded with no outs. Wood gets pout of the inning without anyone scoring. Wood plays left field the next inning, makes a great catch up against the wall in the 7th. Wood comes back in to pitch in the 8th inning getting the one player he faces out. 6-3 Seattle going in to the bottom of the 9th. Cubs tie the game in the bottom of the 9th. Bottom of the 12th, the Cubs have no position players left on the bench to pinch-hit for their pitcher who is due up third. Heyward leads off the inning with a double, moves to third on a sacrifice fly by C/LF Contreras. Jon Lester, a pitcher, pinch hits for Pitcher Rondon. Lester gets two strikes on him so everyone thinks the bunt is off. Lester puts a bunt down with two strikes on him for a safety squeeze. Heyward scores on the bunt by the Pitcher. Cubs win 7-6 in 12 innings after being down 6-0 after 3 and 6-3 going into the 9th.
It's the Cubs year. This was a game.....

So, I am a Tigers fan and wish them the best this weekend, but, that being said, I really, really, really want the Cubbies to win the Series. But, I'm sorry, guys, they just won't do it. I hope I'm wrong, but...
Besides, if they win, who will the Lions be the equivalent of?

OT as this may be (then again, it's SPORTS, no? Even if not Maize and Blue sports), I'll chime in. Frankly, though I stopped following baseball about 10 years ago, and lost much of my enthusiasm for the game when my pitching days ended (not at U-M...in the 30-and-over league in about 1994), for me, this WS is a win-win situation. I like both teams, and know how long both have waited...a combined 133 years (is that a record for WS drought by the teams combined?)
To go with one, though, I'll take the Cubbies. Cleveland fans just had a world title to celebrate, in their Cavs. (Though their NFL Clowns ought to hide in their caves...)

I do feel bad for Brown's fans. The original Cleveland Browns (Baltimore Ravens) have won what-two Super Bowls?

Again I will tell you, I want the Cubs to win. I can tell you that. They just won't. They won't. The series is rigged. It's all rigged. Terrible. Terrible.

The outlook wasn't brilliant for the Cubville nine that day, down three games to one, just one more loss away...
With apologies.

At this point woody, there is no choke or lovable Cubs screwing up.
If we lose tonight that's just the way it is.
It's been such a fun summer. I just hope for 1 more.
