Eligibility question

Ok, this is way way out there. If it's too stupid for you to consider just don't worry about it.

Could a kid play his freshman year at Michigan as a walk on (Does not sign ANY Letter of Intent) then leave and play somewhere else immediately?

Say a kid just doesn't know where he wants to go. (Many many seniors in high school go to a local college for a year before moving on.) Or, what if a kid doesn't get recruited? Goes to Eastern Michigan and plays as a alk on as a freshman. Michigan sees him and wants him. Can we "get" him? Or since he played a year does that then "commit" him to the university EVEN if it's as a walk on?

Getting very hypothetical here.

yep as long as it's a D1 school.

So where is the line drawn? I know I am picking nits. It's better than arguing about 17 year old kids for me right now.

What if he walks on but doesn't play?

Is it the first day he dons a uniform and walks on the practice field?

Or somewhere somehow is there a document that must be signed before he steps on the field making him the "property" of that school?

I'm talking myself into thinking that might be the thing.
