let's say that Michigan plays a home game where the average ticket price is $50 (being EXTREMEMLY conservative). that is 5.5Mil in ticket revenue alone. Plus concessions, apparel, parking, etc. UM has to generate at least 6Mil each home game.
Yes they made 4.7Mil for playing at Cowboy stadium but they also incurred major traveling costs. no way UM netted anywhere near 4.7 from that game.
With the current deficit and the loss of money in the nike deal it would take a lot of money to get UM to play a neutral site.
Hackett is in a very ideal situation where he can say that he's doing it for the fans, given the excitement around harbaugh and the resurgence, but I think this is strictly a dollars and cents decision.
it's a good move by hackett because past administrations were hell bent on expanding that brand at whatever cost.
