His gun charge was really de minimus. It's a little misleading as the paperwork he would have almost implies that it is a temp permit until you get the permanent one much like a temp driver's license. If you read it carefully you realize it doesn't do that, but it's an easy mistake to make.

I agree. I think the coverage was warranted and necessary if not only for the sake of media transparency but it was a bit overblown.
I think he will be able to easily explain it away to prospective NFL teams.
