Is your avatar a real SI issue from the past? If so, that's badass.

And if it's not, it still is. Wink

Gotta keep the guy in my memories, my favorite coach of all-time by far. Love watching the old films, so much fire. Makes me feel like I want to go back out on the field to play

I'm of the younger variety who wasn't fortunate enough to see him on the Michigan sidelines. By time I was old enough to really follow the game, it was MO.

But I'm a psycho and have A TON of Bo's games downloaded/watched.

That guy was a presence on the sideline...noooooo doubt about it.

For those who don't know what we are talking about here you go:

We want the Big Ten championship and we're gonna win it as a Team. They can throw out all those great backs, and great quarterbacks, and great defensive players, throughout the country and in this conference, but there's gonna be one Team that's gonna play solely as a Team. No man is more important than The Team. No coach is more important than The Team. The Team, The Team, The Team, and if we think that way, all of us, everything that you do, you take into consideration what effect does it have on my Team? Because you can go into professional football, you can go anywhere you want to play after you leave here. You will never play for a Team again. You'll play for a contract. You'll play for this. You'll play for that. You'll play for everything except the team, and think what a great thing it is to be a part of something that is, The Team. We're gonna win it. We're gonna win the championship again because we're gonna play as team, better than anybody else in this conference, we're gonna play together as a team. We're gonna believe in each other, we're not gonna criticize each other, we're not gonna talk about each other, we're gonna encourage each other. And when we play as a team, when the old season is over, you and I know, it's gonna be Michigan again, Michigan."

I also made the girlfriend listen to that before the season started.

I got to meet Bo by chance at the Novi Sheraton in 1990 He was a guest speaker for the Michigan Nature Association. He gave me 2 autographs and we talked UM football for about 15 minutes. He had just become the Tiger's president. The man was not larger than life. He amplified life. He laughed and joked about UM football and asked who my favorite UM player was. I immediately told him Anthony Carter and he agreed that AC was an incredible player. Then he told me to keep an eye on a young player by the name of Desmond Howard. He said the kid was going to be a "good one".

I wish I had taken more time to memorize the moment, but I was younger then and didn't realize I was talking to a living legend. I had been watching Bo coach at Michigan for my entire life (born in '65) so he was just Bo. He was UM's head coach. He was a man who I watched stalk UM's sidelines and who never changed. I do still have his autgraph. The other I got for my dad. He had graduated from UM in '63 and had gone through some of UM's bad years. To him Bo was a savior!!

Okay, the trip down memory lane is officially over.
