| Good reading. I agree with most of it. Let's just hope to see some toughness and togetherness next season, and let's hope that translates to wins. | |

| Never questioned his love for Michigan, just at times he seems to want to be seen front and center such as being seen on the sidelines and on the field after games. That is for the coaches and the players, Canham perhaps the greatest college AD ever was never on the field | |

Yeah sandy, it was one of the games we were losing. I remember him putting it on in one of those losses. Can't remember which one of the 6. He looks pissed in that pic, maybe that's when he finally decided to can Big Al! Brings up a question- is Nuss going to be on the sideline during games? The only pics (which are few) I've seen of him, he's always down on the field. If so, Hoke will have a good excuse NOT to have a headset! Ha. And shoes.....you're welcome! I thought you might like that article. Later, guys. |

| I have wondered if Nussmeier will be on the sidelines too. I hope so. To me, that is where the OC and DC need to be. THEY need to talk to the kids as they come off of the field. Not some assistant trying to relay his thoughts. Hopefully he will have assistants who will be able to be his eyes and give him some useful info on what is going on so he can make adjustments (I know...something we aren't use to seeing!) Just my opinion. Go Blue!! _________________ Who's got it better than us? Nooooooooobody!!!

| Really? I've always looked it differently. I think the OC and DC should be in the booth. In the booth they can see the entire field and play-call accordingly. Position coaches need to be on the side line coaching the kids up, considering: 1. They aren't calling plays 2. They are the ones that primarily work with the players at practice.
If I'm paying a guy big bucks to coordinate an offense, I want him in the booth picking up on things like opponent blitz schemes, opponent formations, opponent personnel, etc. _________________

| In my short coaching career (varsity) out offensive coordinator was always down on the field with a competent assistant up in the booth who would call down to him with the help of the others. The guy in the booth would tell the line coaches and coordinator the tendencies of the d-line, lbs, and dbs. With that info the offensive coordinator would call plays on that information. Granted I know high school football is much much less complex than D1 but he still wanted to be on the sidelines to understand the flow of the team and players. | |

| Almost NFL teams have both coordinators on the sideline. | |

| Could see where he might be in the booth for the first half and on the field for the second. Seem to recall Moller, Nehlen and McCartney on the field. My guess is it is whatever the co-ordinator feels comfortable with | |

Do you know the numbers? The only legit sources I can find are outdated. http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/sports/football/nfl/2007-12-26-playcallers-sideline_N.htm That article, from 2007, says 10 of 32 playcallers (I'm assuming OC's) worked from the booth. Other articles say that in 2011, 5 of 32 playercallers worked from the booth. It really seems to me coaching preference and there are pros/cons to each. That USA Today article (though old) has some nice quotes.

| I can see advantages to both.
I guess it's who you trust to read the defense. If you don't trust anyone but the coordinator than he's gotta be up there.
If the Coordinator doesn't trust the guys below him then what?
Plus who else do you put in the pressbox? I really don't know. The line coach? The RB coach? Do these guys know enough about entire offenses or defenses to be up in the box reading stuff?
Just a lot of questions.
I don't think I could argue for OR against. _________________ "What the HELL's going on out here?"

| Agree, joe. I think it is very situation dependent. _________________ | |

OK, I wasn't trying to state it as a fact, just my observations.
