2015 PG Empty
PostSubject: 2015 PG   2015 PG EmptyTue Apr 23, 2013 1:25 pm

Looks like our 2015 PG target is Sedrick Barefield.

2009 it was Morris, 2011 it was Burke, 2013 it's Derrick Walton, the coaches want it to be Sedrick Barefield in 2015.

Barefield, is 6'1" and from Corona, CA Centennial HS. The coaches already told him he is on the top of their wish list. Corona is a little over an hour up the road, you can bet I'll driving up to see this kid next year sporting my loudest UM gear.

Barefield said, "The head coach (John Beilein) watched me in the gym last Friday. The Michigan coaches have said that of the 20 point guards they are recruiting I am the top one they are after. Hearing that means a lot, it's exciting, but I still just have to keep working to get better every single day."

Barefield also said that UM is one of the first schools to recruit him (Boston College the other).

Barefield also said,"Their season was great, to compete for a National Championship they have to have worked their tail off. I just like the way they play and how they continued to get better." He also said that he's noticed Michigan's recent success with point guards and that has increased his interest in them as well.

Distance will not matter in choosing a school.

He visits UM the weekend of June 1st and will likely land a Michigan offer June 15th when the coaches send out their first 2015 offers.

FWIW, Future150 has him ranked 39th in the 2015 class:

But I don't put too much stock into their rankings as they have Jabari Parker 7th overall in this class and there is no way he is anywhere out of the Top 3.

Beilein is really starting to put in work on the recruiting trail. I think he did one hell of a job recruiting star players at positions of need over the last two years (Stauskas, GRIII and McGary last year and now Walton and Irvin this year). Now for 2014 he's targeting and getting serious looks from some pretty star players. If we were to land Looney and Booker it would be one hell of a class. It's icing on the cake to see that he's already putting work in on a 2015 PG.

There is no doubt that Michigan Basketball's future is looking really bright.

You would think Michigan would have to be one of the most attractive schools in the country to a PG considering the success our last two point guards have had playing in Beilein's system. And now people can't use the line that he doesn't put people in the NBA. If the freshman had left early, we would have had three people go in the first round and probably one in the second. That's almost Kentucky territory.

^^^^^ This, plus the fact that Beilein's offense is fun. Could you imagine being a point guard and committing to Bo Ryan?

I can't imagine being a basketball player and committing to Bo Ryan. Most boring offense in the country, and year after year, his teams do absolutely nothing in the Big Dance.

Sour grapes? Shit, I'll take a trip to the Final Four (or Two in our case) over a victory over Wisky any day of any year.
