They DO NOT deserve a capital-'S'. Always refer to them as sparty, even if you begin a sentence with sparty (ALWAYS use lower case).

I lived in Michigan most of my life, but I never understood the hatred for MSU. Other than that recent stretch where they were formidable, they never were a huge threat. It's like the big guy kicking sand in the nerds face at the beach.

To me the real enemy is O$U. I'd root for MSU over O$U 100 out of a 100 times. Maybe it's blashemy to root for them at all... But I do in bowl games because a win still makes football in the state of Michigan look better.

I'm a hockey guy first and foremost. Plus, I grew up basically right on the line between sparty and Michigan. There were of course a lot of Wal-Mart fans there as well as Save-a-lot spartys. I then moved up to Mid-Michigan for several years. Lots of farm-land and where there's farm-land there are cows, where there are cows there is sure to be a large population of sparty faithful. They got all high and mighty during the Rich Clod years, they will pay for that mistake.

I of course, also detest ohio but no where to the same degree as sparty.

I blame internet forums. I used to be just like you, then I got to reading these things, and when they had their little winning streak, their fans were disgustingly out of control. I hate OSU, always will, but at least they have a history of success. MSU fans internet actions soured me to sparty.

Now that you put it that way, MSU fans are total clowns.

I think I detest MSU more because of their dumbs hit fans and alumni that I deal with on a weekly basis. Whereas, I rarely come into contact with OSU fans so I don't have to deal with them as much. My best friend went to school at Toledo and he said that made him hate OSU more than anything just because of their fans (he is neither a Michigan or MSU fan). SO I am sure if i have more contact with OSU fans my opinion would be different.

I agree 13 and as a guy who lived in Bay City/Saginaw for 7 years yes there are an awful lot of annoying sparty fans up there. I couldn't get out of there fast enough. I did meet a handful of ohio fans up there and they were pretty cool. I've met a couple of ohio hockey fans (of whom there are not many) and they were always really nice. I've also met several alumni/fans of ohio before, some were cool but a lot were obnoxious idiots.

Not sure if I told this story here before (I don't think that I did) but one day I was just casually looking through a dating site. I noticed one particular girl who was actually quite attractive so I looked more in-depth at her profile. Of course there was all of the typical blah, blah, blah crap but she also mentioned that she graduated from o$u. She had a picture of her in her cap & gown at ohio's commencement where she was holding her diploma from ohio and giving a "thumbs-up" sign. Of course me with my wit sent her a comment saying, "Oh, so that's what handicapped parking permits look like in ohio." She replied "Fuck you and Go bucks."

My hate for MSU can be understood by two words. "Walmart Wolverine".

Their concept of "you didn't go there, you can't be a fan" is such a joke. I had player tickets to the Sugar Bowl and hung out with the players all week. Most of my Spartan enrolled friends / alumni couldn't tell me what bowl MSU was in last year.

I seriously can't stand that logic.

I cannot stand that either, but it's really cool for me when I get to put them in their place and say, "Uh, sorry but I actually did graduate from The University of Michigan and I am offended for all Wolverine fans. Now where's my pizza?"

The funny thing is, my sister's friend was calling me a Walmart Wolverine, and she didn't go to state. I told her that made no sense, but she just kept on yapping. FYI, she was pretty drunk and peed her pants later, so I thought that was poetic justice.

That's when you refer to her as a "Save-a-lot sparty"...

I had never heard of a Meijer or a Save-a-Lot before moving down state.

There's no reason to have a Super-center where no one lives. That's sparty logic....

I shut one of my Lions / Spartan friends up by saying "dude, you are being worse than a Packer fan right now."

Ya know, it's ironic. How come most sparty fans are also Lions fans? Talk about being a glutton for punishment. Are they seriously afraid to follow successful program?
