Just returned home from A2 Empty

Wow! What an amazing weekend we had in Ann Arbor. First, I would like to share my hockey experience at Yost. Two close games won by the Maize & Blue. They have peaked at the right time. The crowd both nights were completely amazing. I was lucky enough to get an invite to the AD's box for the weekend. I can't thank the Athletic Development Office enough. They had plenty of food and drinks. They had student athletes in the box hanging out with us. They had gifts out on every chair. We got to go in the locker room, Red Berenson's office, players lounge, training rooms, press rooms etc. It was incredible! At the end of the hockey game on Saturday, they gave us game pucks signed by the legend himself. Red Berenson. I was like a little kid in the candy store. After the hockey game, the Athletic Office escorted us over to our seats at the Crisler Center which was already rocking! Hey, we beat the Bucknuts! It was electric at Crisler! However, the favorite part of my weekend though was the Blues Brothers routine that the students do at Yost. If you haven't seen it, try to get to a game during football season. You won't regret it!

IMHO the stuff that has carried over to the Big House from Yost leaves a lot to be desired. Hockey traditions are just that, HOCKEY traditions. There is something about the chants, the Blues Brothers thing, just the atmosphere at Yost that makes it stand out. Yost is so intimate and confined that it makes things special. Take that and put it in Michigan Stadium and all of the energy just rises out of the Stadium. A waste IMO. Football definitely has it's own traditions, no need to "steal" any from Hockey.

A lot of the hockey guys are quoted as saying, "Hockey is different, we're just students here. Everyone knows who the Football players are, but we're just students." The Hockey plkayers actually like it because they get the attention (on a much smaller scale) but they can be college kids. Not everyone can be a Denard...

BTW, there is still one home series left to go. A second-round playoff series in 3 weeks. Go to one of those games (Friday or Saturday) and you'll see the atmosphere. If the series goes 3-games, typically the Sunday game isn't exactly the same but everyone here should go to show support for the team.
