If Maryland has any pride, that city would be it. When it comes to state capitals, I've seen first-hand what (disappointingly) ramshackle DUMPS Albany, Hartford, (more recently) Harrisburg, and of course Columbus are.
(Fortunately I've never been to or even through East Lansing). Even Augusta, ME, while not "ramshackle", was sort of tacky and "blah"...I thought.
Annapolis on the other hand is quaint, relatively safe, has tons of character, and a very nice
waterfront. Of course, the USNA has everything to do with that, I'm sure.
