How many wonder if we haven't seen all there is to see of this offense? How credible is the talk that Harbaugh is not showing any cards?

Looks more like they are asking the offense to not lose games.

I think such talk is quite credible, Woody...whether because of the youth (and consequent longer learning curves) of the team, or the staff's conviction the "secret weapons" weren't needed against the opponents we've played thus far (particularly with our top-notch D and STs). Anyhow, I HOPE they have more than they've shown...because this offense has not shown MUCH. Esp. in the red zone.

Fish, I think you're spot-on (to this point in the season). And I can say without fear of contradiction that "playing to avoid losing" is NO WAY TO REMAIN UNDEFEATED...

Well, the guys haven't been able to execute the vanilla offense. I have no thought that we are holding anything back.

It's going to be worse instead of better with Black being out. Wilton was just getting used to him and now he has to get timing worked out with another guy.

My other thought is the real issue with young guys is blocking. We REQUIRE the receivers to block. Everyone thinks about catches when they think about receivers. That's only part of it.

So, I think we're running as much as we can handle and not really holding anything back.

I don't think we are holding anything back to avoid showing plays. The last 2 games were too close, too late, for that to be logical. I do think we have limited play calling because of either the inexperience of our players or our lack of confidence in them or the QB.

In some cases, plays have been open but Wilton hasn't seen them. I also think we aren't seeing more crossing routes called because of a lack of confidence in Wilton's accuracy. Those plays work beautifully when the timing is there. They are an interception waiting to happen, when it isn't. Let's go back to the first pick 6 against Fla. Most are putting that on the receiver and I agree, he should have had it. However it was just a little behind and just a little high. As much as JH has stood up for Wilton- and he has, he did find fault with that throw publicly. The point is though, that unlike a fade or an out a little miss on those is far more risky.

The offense has a number of issues, but the biggest is that the QB is not accurate enough, often enough.
