PostSubject: So very proud   So very proud EmptyTue Apr 03, 2018 10:03 am

I just watched all of the post game interviews from last night. As expected Coach Beilein and the players handled defeat with class and dignity.

I am as proud of this team as I can possibly be. What a tremendous ride!

Absolutely nothing more to be said than your statement above, Shoes.

Spot-on to the letter.

Our men, coach B, assistants and of course players, gave us one helluva thrill, with nowhere near such lofty pre-season expectations. They gave it their best shot, and lost to a superior team...where's the disgrace in that?

I'm as proud as you to be an alum, for any number of reasons...not the least of which was the class shown by our hoopsters.

Despite my feelings towards the game I agree with you.

This current team was a class act from start to finish. exactly what a NCAA team should be like , They crew together and played for each other, they were close, and found ways to win, even if they hadn't won the BIG tourney they would have been champions.

I'd rank him as the second best coach that UM currently has behind Hutch.

I WILL NOT argue that point but I will mention Mel Pearson and what he has done with a hockey team without much top-tier talent (Hughes notwithstanding but the kid just turned 18 in October).

I won't argue either, but the hockey coach has been on the job only one year...

yep, give him time. Hell, Brady Hoke beat o$u and won the Sugar Bowl his first year. I'll reserve judgement on Mel for the time being.

Mel began this season 8-10-2 but finished 14-5-1. I'd say that is a drastic turnaround. It took half of the season for the players to buy into his system but after they did yea, it was amazing. To come in for a legend like that and change things so quickly. Granted Mel was an Assistant for Coach Berenson for like 19 years before going to Tech for 6 years to gain some Head Coaching experience but still.

Hoke did the same. Turned a 7 win team into an 11 win team. Also impressively turned around two teams (Ball State and SDSU) before being hired at UM. Again, I'll reserve judgement on Mel for the time being.

Look at what he did for Michigan Tech. Those yoopers loved him and were vehement that he wouldn't leave.

Hoke. Harbaugh. Jury on Pearson: Out. One season does not a legend make.

Never said that he was a legend but still. He comes from the Berenson-line of coaches. He was an Assistant at Michigan and Coach Berenson's right-hand man for 22 years. Head Coach at Michigan Tech for 5 years and Tech sucked when he got there, but he turned it around.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mel_Pearson#Michigan_(1988%E2%80%932011)

Legend no, but he is making progress rapidly. Taking the team that he inherited to the Frozen Four definitely deserves major accolades.

I understand the Hoke-Pearson comparisons, but having followed Mel's career dating back to when he was Red's chief assistant (and a decline in our play when he left), and his work at Michigan Tech, I am confident that the similarities are only superficial. Hoke didn't really turn Ball State around- he had one big year keyed by a transcendent MAC QB (a mobile one by the way) and then left. He wasn't at SDSU long enough to know. They have seemed to do just about as well with Rocky Long as coach. Before Mich, he was a slightly better than .500 coach overall. Brandon hired him because he could completely control him.

I have discussed with people who have met and talked with both and while Brady is a nice guy, there is not a lot "between the ears." Mel is very sharp.

Ditto, hockey is not respected. That's OK, I'm used to it. Hockey is a niche sport, I'm cool with it.
