2016 recruiting

yeah I think BP finished 7th overall. not too shabby. he should thrive under Harbaugh (can be said for all of our QBs though)

DeWeaver is a very good QB so don't get too far ahead of yourself.

The B1G had a solid showing of QB recruits. From the little footage I've seen, that kid that is committed to Maryland looked really good.

Which of our 15 QBs do you guys like the best?

It's the most important position on the team. There is some strength in numbers till we sort it out.

I am still on the Morris train. I think this year will be a big jump for him for a many reasons.

1. the harbaugh effect (both teaching and mental and physical toughness)
2. experience. Shane reminds me of the guy on your high school team  that was most improved simply because he had some confidence under his belt.
3. the O line
4. the running game (see the oline)
5. IMO we have good receivers but the TE schemes (blocks/short routes) will help slow things down for him.



all that said, watch for gentry to be game ready but I hope ruddock and speight help him keep his red shirt. I want gentry to stick around as long as possible. he is gonna be really good.


Funny that my absolute favorite recruit for the 2016 class is a QB  he won't play the position at michigan. Victor Viramontes is an absolute stud!

I was sure it was going to be Upshur but he is slowing it down and recently said he wont commit for a while. UM still leads though. FSU has me worried. 

I've been waiting for Terrance Davis to drop at any moment but that hasn't happened either. 

my best guess is that the next recruit will commit during the BBQ (aug 2nd) and I'm going to guess that it will be either Ahmir Mitchell or Donald Stewart.  FYI Ahmir Mitchell is really high on my personal board.

I still have Gary in the class. His visit went great. Auburn may be the team to beat. He had a great showing at the Opening but haven't heard any new word on his recruiting.


Michigan had a really good WR pickup with Brad Hawkins. it was a lock though so no surprise there.  


Upshur and Jones have both publicly stated that they will be slowing down their recruiting process. don't expect any movement from either of them. they are still heavy UM leans at this point though.  


Look for Ahmir Mitchell or Donald Stewart to be the commit. Most likely at the BBQ (8/2)


I took Quinn Nordin off the board. he is committed to Penn St now. there was just no room for him at UM. bummer.

the larry johnson connection is a real threat. O$U is quietly becoming a legitimate threat. If UM has a strong season, I think Rashan ends up at UM. if not he'll be in the SEC

If he picks O$U I will start breaking shit, again. And I am running out of shit to break. I would much rather see him pick Auburn than play for Oscar Meyer.

seems like there might be some movement on the OLine recruiting. 

I have been waiting for Terrance Davis to drop any minute but in the last week there have been four CBs for Johncarlo Valentin to UM. 

FYI - Johncarlo was Onwenu's roommate at the Opening and apparently there was talk from Valentin about Michigan so I assume this is where this comes from. 

if Valentin committed over Davis it would net UM the same talent IMO. This could put pressure on one of them to commit soon given that there is only one spot left for the OLine this year.

this is a developing situation I will be keeping my eye on.

Valentin is saying that he is trying to get up to AA for the BBQ since he couldn't make the scheduled visit a few weeks ago.


Also.... Valentin is Upshur's high school teammate in case anyone was interested.

just a quick update on Rashan Gary

Auburn message boards are saying that his trip to Auburn this summer is up in the air at this point.

Not sure if that means he'll swing by Georgia, Ole Miss and Bama like he was scheduled to do also.


The more time that Gary stays away from Auburn the better it is for UM.

According to 24/7 it's more like Alabama is the problem than Auburn.

per 24/7's timeline David Reese visited Indiana yesterday and is at Louisville today.

The kid has his heart set on LB and I think that is what will eventually lead him to decommit from UM.

I know that UM wants him at FB but I'm pretty sure I read a quote from Reese that said something to the effect that UM would allow him a chance at LB but they definitely want him at FB and it doesn't sound like he wants to be there. 

it's an interesting story to keep an eye on.

for anyone that is interested, David Reese got a second CB to Louisville after his visit.

well I've had a feeling that he could be one of the kids that would commit at the BBQ and with his mom in tow it sounds even more like a possibility.

gary doesn't have a leader. right now it looks like it'll be a 3 team race between UGA, UM and Aub. those three will definitely get official visits. O$U and Penn St will probably get the other two. The staff is trying to get him on campus three more times before NSD. 

1. BBQ
2. a gameday unofficial visit
3. a post season official visit

a good season, a strong showing against O$U and MSU and a nice bowl win will go a long way in his recruitment.

if Reese flips to Louisville then UM will make a serious push for X Kelly.

I still dont see Devin Bush Jr in the class. He will end up at FSU.

Oh and FWIW harding to W Virginia doesnt sound right. he committed and stayed put during the hoke and brandon debacle. I cant see him leaving now. playing time and competition might be a factor but I think he stays in the class.

I just read that Terrance Davis is going to be at O$U's FNL this weekend. maybe that is why he isn't attending the bbq. two long trips two weekends in a row could be hard for him to work out.

also Corley is going and so is Mitchell. would be nice if they show Corley all of the love and push Mitchell our way.

Worst case scenario, Mitchell commits to O$U and Corley goes to MSU. That would REALLY stick it to UM.

ahmir mitchell is at O$U's FNL this weekend and yet he has received 4 CBs to Michigan on 247 today.

somebody at  the event knows something. 

I'm as close as I've been to betting money that he will commit at the BBQ next weekend. especially since his mom will be with him.

 
and by the way, ahmir is literally a plan C or D guy for O$U and yet he is a solid 4* and has a legit shot at getting a 5th star this year. just tells you how impressive the O$U class is. BTW their 2017 is already loaded also. 

2016 3* WR Keyshawn "Pie" Young has been trending well to UM for the last week or so. I don't know if this is another ploy to help land Bush Jr. but it sounds like there will not be room at USC or Bama so Michigan is he next best fit. The kid has offers like he's a top 100 WR though. I read that he could be converted play CB though.

If we take him then you have to believe Donald Stewart is out. Ahmir Mitchell will be a take no matter what.
